Dutch producer/DJ Phynn, in real life known as Finne Jager, was born on the 6th of December 1984 in Nieuwegein, The Netherlands. His passion for music already started at a young age, as he learned to play several instruments back in his early years; an experience he still benefits from in his current productions.
Phynn’s participation in a remix contest in 2002 paved the path for an ever growing list of superb releases. He presented himself to the world in 2004 with his fantastic debut release “Escape” – a collaboration with Fictivision – on the mighty In Trance We Trust imprint, a label owned by Tiësto’s record company Black Hole Recordings. The follow up “Exotica”, a nine-minute euphoric epic, marked Phynn’s first true single release for In Trance We Trust. Phynn was embraced by Black Hole Recordings and exclusively signed to the roster.
After the release of Escape and Exotica, Phynn demonstrated he’s absolutely capable of producing massive big room anthems. His production “Lucid” (2005) was heavily hammered by Tiësto during his In Concert events. Lucid found its way onto the In Concert DVD registration and was signed to tons of compilations worldwide. It became a record that hardly left any DJ case in 2005 and after official release, fans and criticasters experienced the absolute majesty of this track. “Close Encounter” and its B-side track, the orchestral “Tempest”, showcased once again Phynn’s musical background and capability of playing many instruments. The use of larger-than-life epic melodies and riffs turned into a true Phynn trademark.
His high caliber releases as well as his remix for Tiësto’s “Adagio For Strings” resulted in firm recognition from fans all over the globe. Phynn and his productions could now count on the support of the world’s leading DJ’s such as Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Paul van Dyk, Judge Jules and his label boss Tiësto. UK’s Mixmag magazine even labeled Phynn as “Future Hero for2006”, which immediately placed him in the spotlight of the entire dance industry. The Future Hero stigma got completely fulfilled when Phynn obtained a Main Stage spot at the world’s most prestigious trance party ‘Trance Energy’ in 2007. The twenty-five thousand people in the crowd loved his show so much that ID&T didn’t hesitate to book him again the next year, making him one of the few DJ’s who played Trance Energy twice in a row.
Phynn became one of the happy few who had the honor to compile and mix one of the In Trance We Trust compilations, proving Phynn’s not only a skilled knob tweaker in the studio but a flawless DJ as well. His ability to put two records seamlessly together didn’t go by unnoticed. Phynn featured on high profile events and festivals such as Godskitchen’s Sundance Festival, ID&T’s Tomorrowland festival and Trance Energy event, the Magik Muzik Night in Amsterdam, Revolution inPoland and the Inside Out event in Scotland. In his young career, Phynn had the chance to play to thousands of clubbers worldwide alongside established DJ’s like Tiësto, Paul Oakenfold, Deep Dish, Ferry Corsten, Mauro Picotto and Johan Gielen.
In the years that followed, Phynn proceeded with releasing high end productions which saw a slight change genre-wise. His 2007 release “C U Smile” and 2008 gem “Starfire At Night”, featuring the stunning lyrics by singer/songwriter Alexander Perls, were given a more electro approach compared to all of its predecessors. Exception to the rule is the single “This Is The Time”, a throbbing power driven track with a little pinch of acid.
In November 2008, Phynn saw the beautiful birth of his first solo album “Metamorphosis” on the 8th of November. Not limited to any musical boundaries or pigeonholes, Phynn shows the evolution of his productions over the years during a twelve track epic journey on “Metamorphosis”. Whether it’s the uplifting euphoria of “Lucid”, the electro influences on the opening track “Sunset City” and “C U Smile”, the Balearic “Musa Bella”, the addictive vocal trance of “Try Again” featuring UK vocalist Tiff Lacey or the atmospheric down-tempo track “No More Mistakes”, Metamorphosis became an album of outstanding quality and great diversity. An album hailed by global music lovers as an album filed under the “E” for Essential.
After an intensive album launch tour in early 2009, Phynn went back to the studio to produce ‘Spacewalk’, an uplifting trancer that received massive support from Markus Schulz and Armin van Buuren. ‘Spacewalk’ received high acclaim from fans around the world, making it one of Phynn’s most succesful songs until date.
After the success of the Metamorphosis album and Spacewalk, remix requests started pouring in, which led to high profile remixes such as ‘Mike Foyle pres. Statica – Deadly Nightshade (Phynn Remix)’ and ‘Rex Mundi – Opera of Northern Ocean (Phynn Remix)’. Both remixes topped the international trance charts and were voted Tune of The Week on both Markus Schulz Global DJ Broadcast and Armin van Buuren’s A State of Trance.
April 2010 saw the release of ‘Hello Love’, collaboration between Phynn and Antonia from Jets Overhead, a Canadian band. This beautiful vocal trance song was once again received with enormous enthousiasm from Trance critics, with radio and live support by all the major DJ’s.
After the success of Phynn’s remixes for Coldharbour Recordings, he was commissioned for multiple remixes in 2011, for big names including Paul Oakenfold, Richard Durand, Markus Schulz and Space Rockerz.
In July 2012, Phynn will release his newest song called ‘In Your Heart’ on Armada Music, once again featuring Antonia from Jets Overhead. It will feature a remix from Space Rockerz, and the B-side is called ‘Torque’, an uplifting club anthem.
